Depth Psychotherapy

How our therapy at Black Locust Psychology can work for you.

OUR METHOD

Key Approaches:

Depth psychotherapy is a talk therapy that looks at how non-conscious processes and our past impact our daily lives and deeper sense of selves. Every experience is the result of what we’re aware of as well as many connections under the surface. We view current experiences based on how our past is integrated into who we are. The story is important, and how we make sense of it even more so. This is why we look deeper.

There are also times that other tools can help with this story. For example, our psychologists have been trained to know that depth cannot be explored without safety. We all also integrate a variety of other skills and approaches to move towards treatment goals.

When in-person isn't convenient, we work with secure teletherapy...

HOW WE WORK

Each psychologist has their own style around how sessions feel, but we guarantee authenticity as best we can. We often use humor, co-exist in suffering, become curious about symptoms or responses, and most importantly, craft a genuine connection.

Sessions are generally 45-60 minutes in length (agreed upon at the beginning of treatment) and may vary in structure depending on your treatment goals. Longer sessions are possible when clinically indicated.

Costs and Payment

Payment Accepted

Black Locust Psychology does not directly bill insurance. This is because insurance companies tend to work with treatments mainly focused on managing symptoms (that often keep folks stuck in cycles of seeking and 'graduating from' treatment) instead of more foundational depth work.

We request payment at or before the time of service. If you need to submit documentation to your insurance to see about out of network coverage, please ask us before agreeing to our services. In some cases, we can provide a "superbill" that you can submit to insurance, but payment in full at the time of service is still required (that is, insurance may reimburse you later after you have paid us directly). You can also request a Good Faith Estimate at any time.

We prefer to collect payment with debit or credit cards through our secure online portal.

Intake Interview or Formulation Consultation

This is our version of an intake session, where you will meet with a psychologist for about 90 minutes to discuss your history, experiences, and goals in more depth. This can include a discussion about diagnoses, and can be used to begin treatment with us or can be used to help identify formulations and plans for working with other providers.

Psychotherapy Sessions

Our psychotherapy sessions are typically about one hour in duration, but can be longer when indicated - you and your provider will decide this. You and your provider will also decide pricing based on things like complexity and if you need services other than therapy like coordination with other professionals. Longer sessions are usually prorated based on hourly rate.

Our fees typically begin at $250 for the hour (unless otherwise agreed to by your provider), although some providers can offer sliding scale rates in certain circumstances.

Forensic Services

Forensic services are usually provided under a retainer agreement and payment structure. Please contact us for hourly rates for specific forensic services, as these vary depending on the scope of service and anticipated complexity.
